Trichology, in your pocket

Point your camera at the problem.

One photo of the top of your head. HairGro maps your hair density, reads your hairline and scalp condition, and tells you what's actually driving the fall — then builds the routine around it.

How it works

Four steps, and the first one takes a minute.

Most people have already tried three oils and a shampoo before they get a straight answer. This is the straight answer first.

STEP 01

Scan

Hold your phone above your head. An on-screen guide tells you when the light, angle and distance are right.

STEP 02

Score

You get a hair health score out of 100, broken into density, hairline, scalp and breakage — with what each number means.

STEP 03

Plan

A daily routine built from your specific findings. Short, repeatable, and it tells you why each step is there.

STEP 04

Track

Rescan monthly. Your score, density and photos line up side by side so you can see whether it's working.

What we measure

Four readings, not one vague verdict.

"You're losing hair" is not information. These are the four things that change what you should actually do about it.

Hair density

Strands per square centimetre across the crown, mid-scalp and hairline, compared against your own last scan.

Hairline shape

Where your hairline sits now, how the temples are behaving, and whether the pattern is receding or holding.

Scalp condition

Visible flaking, redness, oiliness and buildup — the things that quietly undo everything else you're doing.

Breakage & texture

Split ends, mid-shaft breaks and thinning shafts — loss that looks like shedding but needs a different fix.

The scorecard

Plain findings. No fear-mongering.

Every issue we flag comes with two things: what it means in ordinary language, and whether it's typically reversible, manageable, or worth seeing a doctor about.

  • Severity, not slogansFindings are graded, so you know what needs attention this month and what doesn't.
  • Your baseline is youProgress is measured against your first scan, not a stranger's before-and-after photo.
  • We say when to see a dermatologistSudden patchy loss, scarring or scalp pain gets you a referral prompt, not a product recommendation.

Early crown thinning

Density at the crown is below your hairline and nape. Caught at this stage, the usual goal is to hold what you have and thicken existing strands.

Watch

Diffuse thinning at the crownFewer strands per cm² than the rest of your scalp, with no bald patch yet. Typically manageable.

Fixable

Product buildup near the rootsVisible residue along the part line. Usually clears within a few weeks of a clarifying wash routine.

Every day after

The scan is the easy part.

What changes your hair is the six months after it. HairGro gives you a short daily routine and somewhere to ask the questions you'd otherwise type into a search bar at 1am.

Daily routine

Ask anything

An AI hair expert that has already read your scorecard, so you're not starting from scratch every time.

Is losing 80 strands a day normal for me?
Usually, yes. Around 50–100 strands a day is typical shedding. What matters more in your case is the crown density we measured — that's the number to watch on your next scan.
Should I start minoxidil?
It's the most studied option for the pattern you're showing, but it's a long commitment and it isn't right for everyone. Here's what to weigh, and what to ask a dermatologist before you start.

Your photos

A photo of your scalp is a personal thing.

We ask for something people are self-conscious about. The least we can do is be exact about what happens to it.

Encrypted, always

Photos are encrypted in transit and at rest, and are only ever linked to your own account.

Never sold, never advertised against

We don't sell your data, and we don't hand your photos to advertisers or data brokers. Ever.

Questions

Reasonable things to ask first.

Is this a medical diagnosis?

No. HairGro is a wellness and tracking tool, not a medical device, and it doesn't diagnose or treat any condition. If your scan shows something that needs a professional — sudden patchy loss, scalp pain, scarring, or loss alongside other symptoms — we'll tell you to see a dermatologist rather than sell you a routine.

How accurate is a phone photo?

Accurate enough to track change over time, which is what actually matters. A single photo can't replace a trichoscope in a clinic. What it does well is give you a consistent baseline and show you whether the same spot on your scalp is better or worse than it was six weeks ago.

What happens to my photo?

It's encrypted, stored against your account, and used to generate your scorecard and to compare against future scans. It isn't sold, shared with advertisers, or used to identify you elsewhere. You can delete any scan, or your whole account, from the app. Full detail is in the privacy policy.

Does it work for women?

Yes. Female pattern hair loss shows up differently — usually as widening at the part rather than a receding hairline — and the scorecard reads for both patterns.

Do you sell shampoo?

No. We aren't a product company, so the routine can recommend doing less, changing nothing, or seeing a doctor without costing us anything.

When am I charged?

Not during the 7-day trial. We send a reminder on day 5. If you don't cancel, the plan you picked starts on day 7 and renews until you cancel it. You cancel through your App Store or Google Play subscription settings.

Not medical advice. HairGro provides general wellness information and self-tracking tools. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Nothing in the app or on this site replaces advice from a qualified doctor or dermatologist. If you notice sudden, patchy or painful hair loss, or hair loss with other symptoms, please see a doctor.
